‘We Need Health Equality Now’ Says Election candidate

Following the shocking news revealed last week that dead bodies were left on trollies in University Hospital Waterford a demo has been called by the Still Waiting National Health Campaign this Saturday 4th of May at 1pm outside the Healing Rooms in UHW. The People Before Profit local election candidate in Carlow and the MEP Candidate for Ireland South, Adrienne Wallace is encouraging people to use their feet for change.

Ms. Wallace said ‘This is a Victorian era health care system in the 21st century. There are literal horror stories emerging from our hospitals. Mortuarys that are unfit for their purpose, waiting lists for waiting lists, children being admitted to adult psychiatric wards, it is just not acceptable anymore. To think that because you live in the south east your chances of dying from cardiac arrest are higher than anywhere with 24/7 care is scary. It’s a geographical lottery and they are gambling with our lives. To add insult to injury the nurses were forced to strike for a marginal increase in pay while the government gave themselves a €4,000 pay rise. It just fathoms belief that the government think we will accept this anymore.’

Ms Wallace added, ‘I am encouraging everyone use their feet for change and join the demo this Saturday to continue the fight for health equality. We have protested in our thousands for 24/7 cardiac care and the government are carefully watching. Just like Repeal and the Water Charges, people power will bring about the change we need. Stand and be counted on Saturday.’
